Recently a friend reminded me of just how long I have wanted to immerse myself into creative business. She calculated it’s been a topic in our conversations for around 20 years. I’m not sure where those 20 years have gone. Oh, wait, three children grew into young adults, that’s what happened!
To be fair, within those 20 years, baby steps happened with Poema too. A lot of exploration and experimentation which has formed much of the preparation leading up to now. And I’ve had PLENTY of conversations with God about whether this was a call from Him or if it was just wishful thinking on my part!
It was 5 years ago (can’t believe that!) when I first took a taster class in making silver jewellery. I was pretty much hooked from then, signalling a stronger direction for Poema.
(These were my very first pieces made in that session.)
Over the past few years, I’ve been led to a single word and/or scripture for each year - 2023 is no exception. It helps me keep my hopes and intentions in focus. It helps me to keep God at the forefront and reminds me what He is saying about Poema and not what my scattered mind is saying this week/month/day!
The words in Proverbs 24:27 say this:
[Put first things first.] Prepare your work outside And get it ready for yourself in the field; Afterward build your house and establish a home.

This helps me understand that
The diploma course I did last year was part of the preparatory work for what’s to come (which confirmed what I had hoped)
If you build something with intention, with planning and foresight, it gives it a strong foundation.
A house suggests a structure which offers shelter and security, a home suggests there is joy within. This verse offers both - yay!
If something is established, it implies permanence - something solid, firm and reliable.
So to be given this scripture by God for Poema feels like such a promise.
And an enormous privilege.
So I am hard at work preparing and getting Poema ready, trusting that a time will come when I can build the house…
And if we’re following the agricultural analogy, there are some areas of Poema which are in the greenhouse, in the early stages of growth; some are spending some time in the cold frame gradually acclimatising to outside conditions and some are already out in the open being watered and fed as necessary! And there are definitely some seeds still in packets waiting for the right space and conditions!!
There’s areas of the business which are more prepared and ready than others, but there is definitely forward motion!
I am humbled and grateful for this opportunity to follow my heart.
God is with me - always.
God is wise and faithful - always.
Back in 2021, I wrote here about following the path I believe God had marked for me, discerning the direction He had for me. I think I may be more cautious than I could be but I am learning to trust Him more and more, believing this long held dream is really happening and that in all the years of preparation and getting ready, nothing has been wasted.
