Well, hello to the fantastic human being that is YOU! I hope you’re having a good day and I hope you know how fantastically wonderful you are! This year I am trying to be more positive about myself; hearing God’s thoughts about me when I read them in my bible and being a little kinder to myself. I am my own worst critic and things that I would never dream of thinking about someone else, I apply to myself by default almost. Someone gave me a challenge a while back. Though I made a start at the time, I have only recently begun to revisit it as an intention for this year. I had handwritten around 20-30 affirmations/declarations/positive thoughts/promises from scripture and tucked them away. When I rediscovered them, I made the decision they would become something I would look at often. I printed them out in one of my favourite fonts on A5, so it fits in my diary (I’m definitely a paper diary gal!). So now, it’s in a place I will see it each day, it’s aesthetic to look at and declares GOOD truths about me. Whether they fit my mood at that precise moment or not, THEY ARE THE TRUTH. There’s also a growing collection of similar declarations adorning my wall in my work space. A couple appeared in an order of jewellery tools and were just as appreciated as the tools themselves. Being sent the words ‘You are good enough’ and ‘You have what it takes’ when I wasn’t expecting it definitely gave me a boost! I am hoping that by mulling over these declarations or affirmations I will see myself in a kinder light. May it enable me to be more positive when I’m not necessarily feeling it and trust a little more in the constancy of the truth rather than emotions and circumstances which are ever-changing.
Romans 12 verse 2 says, 'Don’t copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.’
What could be healthier for our mind, heart, body and soul than having kind and loving truths lavished upon us? There’s a whole google search overflowing with wisdom around this! I’ve definitely made my list personal to me. The bible is full of God’s promises and love for each of us. Even if reading the bible or having a relationship with the Living God is not a part of your lifestyle, there’s plenty of ways to feed yourself with kindness. My A5 page contains a list of kind and good truths which are completely my own. Just for me. Some contain scripture, many do not. Some are affirming because I struggle with self confidence, some are based around gratitude and some are facts about my personality and skills which are positive. It’s quite a variety! And I’ll be reminding myself regularly so that I feed myself with kind truths. We all deserve a bit of that, right?
I'd love to know if you do anything similar to feed yourself with good thoughts.
